100 Days Post Transplant - Finally Home
Colton is 100 days post-transplant as of 8/2! Day 99 was a big one - full of labs, tests, his first round of immunizations, and a bone marrow aspirate and biopsy. On Day 100, we were able to move back home to Fort Worth after living near UTSW since April. Coming home has been surreal - exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. Colton is feeling good and is now off immunosuppressive medications. Still, his care team wants him to stay protected, so he'll be in bit of a "bubble" through the end of the year as his immune system continues to rebuild.
After stopping the immunosuppressants, Colton had a flare-up of skin graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and his team is treating it closely to keep it from worsening or affecting other systems.
Reaching 100 days is a huge milestone, and we’re beyond grateful to be here. Colton is getting his central line removed later this week, which is another moment to celebrate and something he’s really looking forward. We’re also expecting results from his recent bone marrow biopsy sometime soon.
Once his care team is confident the GVHD is under control, his appointments will begin to space out more. He’ll continue getting regular labs over the next few months and will begin receiving all of his childhood vaccinations again, since his new immune system has to build protection from scratch.
Thank you all for your ongoing prayers and encouragement. We are so thankful all the support.
